December 28th, 2008 The shadow

Place: church

Poison: diet coke

Favourite things: dunsborough packing terribly!

Between the idea and the action lies the shadow

T.S elliot

I have had quite a chilling week in the land of my next book. Kym lost some of the photos when her hard drive crashed and truthfully I gave up. I lost the battle…

Then I heard this quote today on church. The shadow tried to take over…

I chatted with phil about my feeling of hopelessness regarding this project and he told me a story of a man, who spoke his own book word for word, because he was paralysed and couldn’t write. It took him a whole year to record the twenty tapes ready for publishing, then in a tragic accident someone ruined all of the tapes on the way to the typist!

Phil said that when asked about the loss of his life work, the author said oh well it only means I have a chance to make it better.

I need to find that sort I robustness in the shadow, because finding the strength to take something from an idea to an actual action is tiring.

Fight the shadow and see your dreams realized.

Even when it hurts.

December 24th, 2008 The eve

Place: 6168 shopping centre

Poison: a bad latte

Favourite things: banana bread

I am sitting here in the locality of 6168 watching people rush from store to store, fights between spouses bubbling, children doing everything to be good with the taunts of santa whispering in their ears.

With my earphones in (playing jazzed up carols of course!)

I feel so seperated from the malay. Not in a prideful way, just a voyuer looking in wondering why?

If there was no birth of a Saviour, would it really matter to the throngs of consumers? Is CHRISTmas, truly about celebrating a unlikely King. Even carols haunt the shopping aisles asking for a response to the silent night, but no avail more Santa hats, alcohol and turkeys are brought…

No matter how fast you walk, how many presents are consumed, Christ still is the core reason for this time of celebration and the echoing of his worship will resound in heaven for eternity.

I take time to honour you Jesus, in the midst of all this chaos.

Come let us adore Him…
Merry CHRISTmas to anyone found on this blog at this time.

Beleiving that 2009 will be so much better for one and all.

December 22nd, 2008 in search of the christmas light…

Place: Rockingham

Poison: water

Favourite Things: My family

This keyboard is attrocious, so stand by for a short post and lots of mistakes.

We spent this evening in the search of the best Christmas lights display. The most noblest of Christmas causes for a seven year old.

Our family was in its finest, with rugs, children and many cars in tow. We drove the perimeter of our home town, searching and ooing and ahhhing at the lengths people had gone to express their Christmas flare.

Now I am not a huge fan of Consumerism, or the frenzy that is biting our bank balances at this time of year.

But I am in no means a BA humbug either.

To spend time with my neices and nephews, to walk hand in hand with my granma, whilst my mum hobbled behind wrapped in a sleeping bag, was worth every light globe disaster, these houses had battled to get their displays just right!

Traditions are formed through repetition and memories are made through magnificent moments. Christmas is the perfect time to ignite both.

Search for the light, in the midst of much darkness.

December 16th, 2008 joy!

Place: My Office

Poison: Long Black

Favourite Things: Jackson coming to our house for Christmas!

I need help to find more joy! Its so easy to get bogged down with the details of life and the unexpected balls that are thrown at you.

One thing that brings me joy, is creative little knick knacks, that don’t cost the earth. Hand made love for Christmas that shows the love. This year I am giving homemade soap and florentines.

Check out this website. Next year would love to make some of these.

December 14th, 2008 On the edge of expectation…

Place: church

Poison: grapes

Favourite things: nearly time for a new moleskin diary!!!

Joy is the theme of church this weekend and I am being slammed.

A quote that just jammed me is…

‘as Christians we should be tiptoed on the edge of expectation’

This has always been one of my catch cries yet I have allowed recent craziness to take the edge away from my expectation…

Boring and Christ just should not co-exsist, however how many Christians live with beige as their best friend.

I simply cannot believe in a God who does not dance!

It’s the bright field of tulips, designed for no other reason than enjoyment.

This Christmas find some joy!

Dance with someone in your pjs in the lounge room on a Wednesday night!

Joy to the world.

For the jaded out there, laugh a little…

December 13th, 2008 The polar express!

Place: lounge

Poison: fruit mince pie

Favourite things: the gtc bake off

We are sitting here watching the polar express and it is delightful! I love the spirit of Christmas and the shared experience of memories. Memories of days gone past, hope, expectations.

Mostly love.

Sit and watch a Christmas classic with those you love. Warmth will grow.

Wherever you are at this Christmas find a friend and share a memory.

Priceless!

December 12th, 2008 It’s starting to look a lot like christmas

Place: home

Poison: christmas liquer

Favourite Things: Shawn Macdonald

The last month has been quite full on. Finding it hard to express what has been happening but life just continues on. The good and the bad. That’s the shades of life.

I am however inspired by Christmas and the opportunity I have to spend time with family and friends.

I hate consumerism and materialism, but I love the opportunity this season creates for quality time and life to be shared.

In the midst of so much tragedy, its so good to breathe in the respect and honor that my family thrives on.

Over Christmas and New Year I have some time off and am looking forward to blogging more and generally slowing the pace down.

Tomorrow is the GTC annual cookie bake off and I can honestly say even that is not helping me smile. Tomorrow will be another day and another story.

My dad was in Mumbai for the recent terrorist attacks and it brought home the reason why family was created and truly what the real meaning of Christmas is…

Get out of the consumerism flow this Christmas and find your own path.

Hopefully one full of family, friends and joy.

My true prayer this Christmas is ‘Peace on Earth’
