| March 30th, 2007 | a balm |
Place: My Office Poison: Flat white Favourite Things: Easter Eggs (i know I shouldnt but there in reception!) We are doing much research on Jane Austen at the moment for our next women’s event and this quote struck me! Friendship is certainly the finest balm for the pangs of disappointed love…Jane Austen (Northanger Abbey) I have this amazing group of friends all over the world, that I would most certainly call my ‘sisterhood!’…With each of them moving into the lives that they have been called to live, I must be more intentional with the effort and time it takes to stay connected in their worlds. What I have experienced through these relationships is a fine balm that has provided the healing layer from the stings, burns and cuts that life brings. I do not want to live a sheltered experience where I never venture out from the confines of my safety zone. Therefore it is imperative that I have people who love me unreservedly to speak perspective and truth in those times of emergency. So thanks to those balms of love out there, you know who you are… Life without you would be so completely boring! Lovin A Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

| March 29th, 2007 | grey’s anatomy |
Place: My Office Poison: Water Favourite Things: Fresh Eggs from my ma… My friend Gai passed onto me a Dvd of grey’s anatomy because since shifting to a new time slot of Sunday nights, I have not been able to get my weekly fix. I’m not a huge fan of television, but since Kym (my bestest friend) has shifted back home, I have had a big hole in the social architecture of my life and tv seems to have been filling it! Grey’s anatomy is such a great show. The primary theme in each episode reflects the main anthem of my generation. Am I good enough? Does somebody/ anybody notice me? Guilty or not guilty… One show that I watched late last night really impacted me about father’s and daughters. The protaganist of the show Meredith Grey continually was bumping into her estranged Father and it meant she had to deal with this demon from the past. Then George (the soft, cuddly, everybodies his friend doctor) was grappling with the heart wrenching effect of a life time of damage on his fathers body and his consequential death. Grey’s Anatomy, although just a show captures the heart of a generation and aptly reflects struggles that plauge my everyday. Why do we get drawn into the stories of others… Nice A Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

| March 27th, 2007 | CHANGE YOUR WORLD |
Place: My Office Poison: Easter Eggs! Favourite Things: Sneaking Easter Eggs early!! There is this one song that whenever I hear it, it totally unravels my heart and its one true desire. Not in a forceful, controlling way, but in a Beatitudes, I have been extended so much grace type of way…I live to change your world. The song talks about people who dwell and survive daily poverty, whilst we spend a hundred dollars on a night out with the girls without even thinking! I live to make a difference in people’s lives who have less than enough to survive. Especially children who are not responsible for the circumstances that they are born into. I live to change the world, one life at a time, by living a generous and thought filled existence. Watch this video and see what rises in your heart to bring change to this world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMTXiHsHrKs Moved A Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

| March 14th, 2007 | blokes |
Place: My Office Poison: Diet Coke Favourite Things: White Leather travel bag
Today has been one of the cruisiest event days in years. Normally the day of an event, is filled with stress, many phone calls, last minute problems and craziness. However, my team has grown so much in the past year and have done such an amazing job of arranging the finer details of the event. This event is a special one. Hundreds (750 2night) of blokes in one room. Beer, hot dogs, fart jokes, chips, bands, blowing stuff up, marriage man. Its our fourth one of its kind, but I’ll never get used to the strange feeling of being one of the only women in the room. Unfortunatly for me, I don’t enjoy it. In fact each event I am overwhelmed by the feeling of self conciousness, when I am not really the self concious type. Being surrounded by hundreds of guys is actually really scary for women. Not sure whether it is the testosterone, the lack of galiantry, the smell…Not sure. I so wish though, I could walk away feeling encouraged, not gawked at, or even paid attention to, because the night is absolutely not about us. But the confusion for me is, why don’t women walk away from encounters with men feeling secure and okay about themselves. Not sure about this one, but am longing to be surrounded by men, friends and lovers who create a safe environment where we (women) feel okay about ourselves and who we are. Confused… A Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

| March 12th, 2007 | journalling |
Place: My Office Poison: Water Favourite Things: life… The last few days with Kym in town has been very crazy. In response to my craziness, there has not been much journalling happening in the normally prolific writing life of Amanda Powell. It made me think though, who am I actually writing for… There are parts of my journalling that are purely processing. Venting my spleen, getting it out there, theraputically letting it flow, so my nearest and dearest dont get an ear full. Then there are those poetic moments, when pen hits the paper and I romantically fantasise over the generations to come and who out of my family will get their hands on my writings, musings and general dribble. Then there are divine moments, when I have a life changing thought or moment, normally about me, love, friendships, life and God. They are few and far between, but are noteworthy. But mostly my journalling is a bundle of words put together, to help me maintain focus on what is essential about life and what is not. Whomever said it was imperative that there was a time of day, a season of ‘rightness’, a form of paper, a particularity of pen, I believe are so bound by rules that they lose the essence of what great writing is about. Journalling is all about connecting your heart, mind and emotions, through the power of communication. Journalling for me is theraputic, but not a religion. Freedom comes, when you forget who you are writing for… A  Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

| March 11th, 2007 | livin on the edge… |
Place: My Office Poison: Cinnamon Altoids Favourite Things: Child in charge doco… The last few days have been quite amazing and manic all in one. We had a surprise Party for Kym on friday night. Which ended up not really being a surprise because she read the email telling people about it (Mental note, sending emails with the party information on it, with a title TOP SECRET, is not the best for someone who is very curious) Then yesterday at IMAX in northbridge we held the documentary launch for Kym and Bryces doco called ‘Child in Charge’. It was breathtaking. We held a art exhibition raising funds for Rwanda, the art was amazing and of course there was the first screening of the documentary. I cried, laughed but was mostly so proud of my friends who went out on a very thin line to create this movie. They had had little sleep in the last month and have just run so hard to do this amazing feat. I love creativity that lives on the edge. Its not safe and measured and full of caution. There is nothing worse than seeing someone live their life careful. I would prefer to live a creative life on the edge and then stuff up a few times, than live my life careful. So for all those parents out there who constantly drill into their kids ‘Be careful, Be careful’ Do you actually know what you are drilling into them? Live scared! Live measured! Live CARE-FULL, which translates to full of cares. Creativity and living the life you were created to, is not specific and matter of fact. Its organic, risky and powerfull. Live on the edge… Do it afraid. A Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »
