December 24th, 2006 street art

Place: my Office

Poison: diet coke

Favourite Things: christmas of course!

Walking through Mount Lawley yesterday I was arrested by all different forms of artwork on the street. There has been such an awakening in Perth of creativity and people expressing themselves.

As passionate as some are about the removal of grafitti, I am passionate about people expressing themselves and creating beautiful artwork in the landscape of our city and its everyday life.

I am not into freshly painted buildings being defaced in the name of gang warfare, but I am so intrigued by artists who beautify our streets with their gifts and creativity.

My friend Gayle sent me a email this morning with some photos of pavement art.

Check these out!

Merry Christmas and paint your landscape this Christmas with creativity.

December 22nd, 2006 Happyness

Place: My Office

Poison: Water

Favourite Things: My boating clothes on ready to go out on the water this afternoon! Oh I love summer…

This time of year is a great time for new movies, outdoor activities and much celebration. LOVE IT!

I saw the shorts for this new film coming out on Boxing day called ‘The pursuit of HAPPYNESS’ and it looks so amazing.

Over breakfast I was reading an article in a UK magazine about happiness, and what makes us happy. Some of the writers talked about; security, peace, fun, love…

For me, it was a great challenge this morning. What truly makes me happy. What makes you happy?

This Christmas, (in comparison to past ones) I really want to honour, love and cherish the quality time I am spending with my family.

We have my brother Jeremy and his son Jackson with us this Christmas and I don’t get to spend much time with them, and I just love them so much.

 IMG_4077.JPG

What my challenge is though, ‘My family bring out my best and worst!’ Sometimes I do it really well and other times I do it so badly. Dinner tables can create happyness, warmth and great memories but they can also bring out immaturity, hurts and offense.

I so want to be a big sister this year in every sense of the word. I want to believe the best in all of my family, be slow to speak and most of all cherish the time we have together.

Family really is my pursuit of Happyness!

CRAZY BUT BEAUTIFUL!!

December 16th, 2006 The Holiday

Place: Kyms House

Poison: Pinapple Juice

Favourite Things: 38 degree heat, pools and baby showers

holiday.jpg

Yesterday Kym, Elly and I hid from the 38 degree heat and went to the movies. We went chickflick all the way, and I haven’t stopped thinking about the film since.

The movie was about two women, who after love gone bad, decide to house swap the week before Christmas. I don’t want to give much away, because a movie with little profanity is rare these days and I want as many people to go watch it as possible.

Anyways, the thought that keeps rolling is this one. Are you the leading lady in your life or the stilted, jaded best friend. Kate Winslett has this beautiful encounter with this endearingly, quirky, retired film maker. Who asks her this question…

Are you the leading lady in your life or the best friend?

Some people act as though, especially in the realm of love that they are the best friend, who can be used, abused and refused. However we were born to be the leading ladies of our own lives.

Not all leading ladies are self centred and pride filled…But they always know who they are and how they should be treated.

I am not one of those feminist, obsessed with ‘where are all the men’ type of chicks! But I know who I am and how I deserve to be treated.

Yesterdays movie totally reenforced that fact for me.

Anyways, great flick…Check it out!

December 14th, 2006 Sardines in the cupboard

Place: My Office

Poison: Diet Coke

Favourite Things: my travel plans for January that were booked today!!!

IMG_4021.JPG

(Spot Bryce)

Last night, this crazy group of people, ran a muck in the Mounts Bay Apartments. It was our final connect group for the year, and we had a big dinner together, then randomly Tracy suggested we play sardines.

Okay, for those more mature people reading, the thought of playing a game with a big group of people (especially when your 30) is not that cool. However I beg to differ.

For some reason, the stress that was relieved, by running around a pitch dark apartment, with 15 other people was just the medicine that this little soul needed.

Sardines- is when one couple hide, then the rest of the couples need to come and find them and hide with them quietly until the rest of the crew find them.

However trying to stay quiet with 15 people squashed into a cupboard, with clothes, shoes and sweat all around is hilarious.

So for the stressed out there, gather a group and play sardines, it is water for the soul!!!

Very immature, very funny, GOLD!

Relieved

December 12th, 2006 stress

Place: My Office

Poison: Diet Coke

Favourite Things: new imate phone…(ahh, at last…no more brick)

Well, this time of year brings out the worst in all of us. After two days of a really strained neck and trying to keep all the plates spinning, this afternoon I had a bit of reflection time. Is stress circumstantial or is it our response to situations.

Its a bit of both, but is totally a choice on our behalf.

Stress is a part of our everyday lives, no matter what we do, it rears its ugly head. Whether its in another country and your completely out of your comfort zone, whether its family tragedy, whether its a work transition, with a new port folio, whether its a change in cities for work, whatever the circumstance, stress is laying around in the background, doing everything that it can to make its way forward.

I am all for processing, don’t get me wrong. I am Miss Verbal processor number 1, however offense is a choice and so is stress.

There is also a positive side to stress, its called adrenelin and in the area of production it helps me maintain momentum at times of high task orientation. However bad stress, causing relational breakdown, unfair responses and irrational worrying is totally a choice as well.

I need help in this, and some of you might have some thoughts, but I so want to get better in this area, but still maintain the momentum and adrenilin to live a large life.

Any thoughts?

Stressed…

December 11th, 2006 christmas with friends, family and loved ones…

Place: Andrea’s

Poison: Coffee

Favourite Things: This season of Christmas

We sat next to Andrea’s pool this evening, and enjoyed friends, family and christmas. Fine food (andrea’s cooking is amazing!!) and stupid, crazy conversation, but too me it so felt like Christmas.

A long table, with a sweet table decoration, Christmas has definately come to town.

For me the smell of summer, burn off’s in the background, BBQ’s, wine, family, tinsel (as much as I despise it), cool tunes, yummy food. All mean that Santa Claus is coming to town.

What says yep its Christmas for you?

For Irish Mike sitting at our table tonight, this totally does not feel like Christmas…

One day, real soon I hope, when I’m all grown up! I am taking my family to a little villiage on the bottom of the Swiss Alps, or a villiage in Tuscany and we will have a white Christmas with snow, turkey, jumpers and thermals.

Till then, BBQ’s by the pool, with lots of friends and family. Spa’s and lots of kids running wild, waking up wearing summer pjs whilst we open our presents, sweating sitting at church with 40 degree heat, is Christmas for this Santa’s little helper.

Bring it on, I say.

from the ultimate Christmas Groupie!

December 9th, 2006 albertine

Place: Andreas House

Poison: Glass of Hunter Valley Mt Pleasant, Semillion

Favourite Things: Bowl of Pasta with boccocini and mushroom

Albertine200.jpg

This afternoon I downloaded Brooke Frasers new album Albertine, from Itunes. I was so excited to see my great friend’s album (only released in Australia on itunes) is already number 3 on the Itunes Album chart! Gold.

She is an amazing girl, who lives her life with abandonment to see music connect people with their maker. The album is on my ipod and sure to become the most played over the next months.

Her last album Arithmetic, still is an all time favourite.

Check it out, download it, legally not illegally, because she’s totally worth it.

On ya Brookey

December 8th, 2006 epichoregeo

Place: My Office

Poison: Diet Coke

Favourite Things: Crystal Lewis Christmas Album! GOLD…

In last weeks staff meeting Phil was speaking about this word ‘Epichoregeo’ and it completely caught my attention…

I googled this greek word and there were only 734 pages that include this word, on the prolific web is quite small.

It is derived from the greek version of the scriptural passage: 2 Peter 1: 5, which is all about adding to your faith with all dilegence.

The coolest thing about this word, is its definition is ’going to the extra expense of hiring or have a chorus’. In greek times, the greek tragedies always had a chorus, but in those days having 50 extras, just to sing a few songs throughout the lengthy tragedies was quite extravagant for a producer, director or whomever was coordinating the show. The verb originates in the expression ‘at the expense of the chorus’.

Epichoregeo in reference to 2 Peter 1: 5 and in turn our everyday life, means to go to extra expense, to provide more than is barely demanded. Not in a materialistic sense, but in living a life of generousity and faith in people.

If someone asks you to do something and you say yes, then do it with due dilegence. Do it ‘at the expense of the chorus’, a contemporary version ‘go above and beyond the call of duty’ or ‘Go the extra mile’.

Why you say?

No reason at all, but to make it better. I am sure the greek tragedies would have been fine without the nuiances, the harmonies and the emotion of the 50 piece chorus (choir), however epichoregeo means at the expense of the chorus, it adds, it layers, it defines, it exhorts, it deepens, it broadens and makes the whole experience so much better for all.

My thought today, why do I in event management spend hours trying to make something different, why do I spend hours finding something really specific for a theme, when giving a present, why do I take the time to go above and beyond. ‘At the expense of the Chorus’

Providing more than is barely demanded.

Just because I can and want to live a rich, full, creative and chorus filled life.
